BIO

Hi, I'm Melanie. Welcome to my website!

I am a lifelong linguist and passionate translator, embarking on my career as a freelancer after beginning my career in-house. I'm a Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists, and I hold a Masters in Translation Studies from Cardiff University, for which I was awarded a Distinction. I specialise in health and wellbeing. This includes medicine (specifically neurology, cardiology and pharmaceuticals) and lifestyle (specifically beauty and feminine issues). You can read more about my specialisations here.

I decided to take the plunge and venture out on my own in 2020, gently nudged by the rise of remote and flexible working brought about by the pandemic. I had also grown a little disenchanted with the industry – I found all too often that the focus wasn’t always on quality. I want to change that.

I provide a number of language services; please see here for further details about what I can offer you. You can also read more about my experience and qualifications in my FAQs. For anything else you may like to know, please drop me an email at hey@melanietranslates.com and I'll be happy to help.

I really love what I do for a living and want to encourage others to immerse themselves in foreign language and culture too. I believe that being a successful professional (in any industry) does not require you to forfeit your personality, or that you have to change who you are to succeed. I believe in treating all people with respect, kindness and understanding. Building a trusting relationship with my clients is extremely important to me and I endeavour to make the entire process of translation (from quote to delivery) as positive as possible for each client. If you have any questions or if I can help you in any way, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

I am always happy to chat!
